Some of the more commonly used styles of massage therapy
Therapeutic massage is a general term that describes any type of massage modality that helps relieve pain, reduce stress, and work on a specific problem—such as a frozen shoulder. People tend to assume therapeutic massage means deep tissue massage, and that they will get a very strong massage, but the therapy is as unique as the practitioner and the client.
The Swedish massage is one of the most common types of massages you can get. It is performed to energize the body and improve overall health. This type of massage involves long slow strokes to apply oil or lotion and actions like percussion, kneading, vibration, tapping and rolling, known as "petrissage".
Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage but with a deep tissue massage, your therapist applies slow, firm pressure to release muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).
Techniques and practices to move energy, release tension, create a sense of peaceful flow and connection.
The Reiki ("ray-key") method of healing was founded in Japan on the revelation and understanding of the body’s energy system. It is a gentle hands-on treatment for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. You remain fully clothed.
Your Aura is your energy field. Chakras are specific centers in your energetic field. An energy practitioner can work with your energy field and teach you to clear your field and also to ground. These are "Personal Energy Management Techniques". Energy practitioners (or light workers) can also work with you to connect and disconnect from relationships, places, and events.
Keep in mind that Massage Styles and Therapies are as Unique as the Therapists and Clients :)
